CWTC Members ride round the Island
Isle of Wight
2nd May 2010
The Bank Holiday ride on the IOW went ahead this year with 6 members of the CWTC braving the elements. It all started well with Del Morton, Beth Simmonds, Angus Pringle, Jan West, Mark Mills and Brian Gowdy meeting at the IOW Ferry Port at 0715. None of the team had ever been on the IOW ride before so we planned it all off the cuff!!
Once there, we registered and set off to find our first check point, however, within 2 miles we had our first puncture victim (Beth), quickly repaired we set off again, but within another mile we had our second puncture victim (Beth again!!)
Repaired again we set off for the checkpoint, but after seeing cyclists heading towards us we realised that we must have missed it, and after going back and forth a few times we eventually found the elusive checkpoint and were on our way.
The weather was holding out and thoughts of sunshine briefly crossed our minds but at about midday they were dashed as the rain came, coupled with very strong winds making the leg between Niton and Freshwater something of a character-building ride!! We also encountered a little 2 mile muddy path, which was nice!! (See muddy feet pic)
Yarmouth was the food stop where we all enjoyed a bit of scram, getting back in the saddle was a bit daunting but we managed to get on and finish the ride without further incidents.
Despite the weather the ride was thoroughly enjoyable and look forward to next year (well maybe!) Hopefully the sun will shine and the CWTC will have a good representation.
