Hamble Aquathlon 24th April - CW Tristars

On a glorious sunny day at the Hamble Community Sports College, the first race of the South East Junior Series attracted the very best young talent from across the region.

Hamble

It was fantastic to see the club represented by 13 junior athletes all in Club Hoodies, for many of whom it was the first time racing competitively.

The other more experienced Juniors were nervous as many found themselves in new age categories this year competing with children up to 2 years older.

The Tristar 1 race (9-10) started at 9.30am with Harry Carter, Adam Long, Rosie Sloane & Abbie Pillans showing great determination, the majority clearly enjoying their first competitive race.

Tristar 2 (11-12) followed with Owen Aldous and Benjamin Taylor, both putting in encouraging run legs.

An eventful Tristar 3 (13-14) race was represented by Sam and Jake Pillans, Jess Breach and Harry Leleu. The twins were subjected to swimming an additional 4 lengths as a result of an officials miscount, Jess was involved in a thrilling sprint finish having track an athlete for 3k, with Harry coming into transition in fourth place but managing to take second place overall with a superb run leg. ( equivalent 20minute 5K time)

The Youth event (15-16) saw Callum Aldous, Ross Reardon and Jake Sloane in a very high class field. Callum also had to swim an additional 2 lengths, coming back on the run to take fourth place. Ross and Jake were involved in their own private battle putting in some impressive running, Ross narrowly coming out on top with Jake even having time to play to the crowd with some Egyptian style running in the closing straight!

Parents, relatives and coaches played their part, with very loud encouragement from the sidelines and although only momentarily Aidy could almost not be heard!

Chichester Westgate Tristars represented the Club with great sportsmanship despite some very questionable swim length counting, it is encouraging to look forward to the next race, the first South East Series Junior Triathlon event on 9th May in Winchester.

Ellie, Aidy and Rob.

The Westgate Tri Chicks managed great results with group A managing 3rd overall and Group B 6th. Group C missed the first run but, looking at their performances, would have been very close behind Group B.

Steyning Duathlon

April 12th, 2010

There was some great racing today at Steyning as part of the National Ranking Series, with many athletes looking to qualify for the Europeans in France.

Four CWTC members made the journey to Steyning on Sunday 5th April to compete in the event which consisted of a 7km run 35km Bike and a final 5km Run.

The race was split into two waves with all four of the club members going in the first wave. The start of the race was very fast and Dan lead the club off from the start with Andrew second, Levi third and myself last of the group of four but after seven laps the order had changed with Dan being off on the bike first then Levi second and myself third and Andrew very close behind me; so very close racing with the three of us.

After 35 km on the bike Dan was still in the lead from the group of four and keeping up with the leaders of the race.

As we came back into transition Andrew had managed to come past myself and Levi and he was ahead on the run. I was close on his tail trying to get those precious club points with Levi just behind us both. After some hard and fast running I managed to catch Andrew and get the very valuable 9 points for the club series, after Dan, obtaining the maximal 10 points then came Andy with 8. Bringing up the rear with 7 points was Levi so the race is on for the club series already!

We all thought the bike was hard with a strong headwind but worth the effort. Dan and I managed to qualify for the European Duathlon Champs in France and I look forward to doing Triathlons again!
